Cae Wllf | Modular Timber Frame Extension
Llandderfel, Bala, 2021

Cae Wllf is a traditional stone house on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. We have designed a 2 storey extension for a living room and kitchen-diner on the ground floor and additional bedroom on the first floor. The timber clad extension sympathetically continues the window pattern on the primary elevation facing the village, where-as the side elevation is more playful. The stone barn will be renovated to become an artist's studio and office.
The timber frame system will be provided by local Welsh mill, The Timber Cooperative, using timber from the region. The panels will be built in the mill and then assembled on site. They will be highly insulated with cellulose, a material which helps lower carbon emissions by recycling that waste paper. A ground source heat pump will provide heating and cooling to both buildings.
